As the month of May is leaving us, and the full moon is up; orange and plump, I decided to write a post to help us wrap June in its yellow fury. Self development is a new and fresh addition in the categories of this blog, and it starts off with The Beautiful Life by Simon Parke. In this book, Simon writes his own ten commandments that will guide our paths on beautifying our lives. The book has ten chapters for each of the commandments and at the end of each one there is a resolution. In this way, as readers we can incorporate the information in a more practical way in our everyday routines. It is a very easily read book full of metaphors and symbols.
With this said, lets go over its commandments!

Commandment 1: Be Present
'This moment you are living is not an interval between appointments. It is the appointment.'
Commandment 2: Observe Yourself
Once we have recognised and greeted manipulation, fear, control and judgement, we can begin to say goodbye to them. Once observed, the change can begin; once we are aware, half the battle is won.
Commandment 3: Be Nothing
This is what it means to be empty- open to possibility of true adventure
Commandment 4: Flee Attachment
Once free of attachment, we look on the world with a child's eyes, in which everything is new, and nothing is the same. We experience a direct knowledge of things as they are, free from manipulative, clinging and stale agendas. We embody openness, refusing favorites.
Commandment 5: Transcend Suffering
Rejection of suffering, and denial of its effects on us, turns the darkness in on ourselves, and locks us into internal patters of destruction. Acceptance of it brings light into the darkness of our misery.
Commandment 6: Drop your Illusions
We must let go in order to receive. To accept the new, we must first put down the old.
Commandment 7: Prepare for Truth
To receive the truth, I need above all things to create something new inside me, a space not previously developed.
Commandment 8: Cease Separation
As the baby looks out on the world, it doesn't see its body as the limits of its self. The consciousness of the baby knows no bounds, spilling out all over the place, like an overflowing bath. The infant identifies itself with the wholeness of all things, nothing less.
Commandment 9: Know your Soul
Our soul is our entire experience. Our soul is our world.
Commandment 10: Fear Nothing
Do not fear to live, full stop, for we cannot live in fear. Fear is an illusion and there can be no life in illusion.
These are all the commandments. If you can, read the book. It will bury its seeds deeper into the ground of your soul.
And now for you to reflect, If you could adopt one of the ten commandments for the new month to come, which would it be? For me, is Fear Nothing.
May this new month bring you peace and light!
